U-Dig Fossils has established a world-wide reputation as a premier destination for fossil enthusiasts. Our family-operated quarry, situated in Utah's West Desert, provides access to the Wheeler Shale, an impressively rich Middle Cambrian fossil formation. This site yields a substantial number of common trilobites, including Elrathia kingii and Asaphiscus wheeleri, alongside many rarer trilobite species and other marine organisms that flourished in the oceans around 500 million years ago. The discovery of new Cambrian species within the Wheeler Formation continues to thrive today.
Visitors delight in the incredible fossil-finding opportunities available at our quarry, all set against a stunning backdrop that often features the wild horses of Swasey. The exceptionally clear sky enhances the experience, making this location a prime spot for enjoying astronomical events like eclipses and meteor showers.
Rockhounds thrive in our prime location, just a short distance from public access to the trilobite-fossil-rich Marjum and Weeks formations. Additionally, within a day's drive, there are fantastic opportunities to discover Topaz, Dugway Geodes, Sunstone, and various types of Obsidian, including mahogany, snowflake, and Apache tears.

Our location offers a convenient starting point for those venturing to explore any of Utah's 'Mighty Five' national parks, as well as for visitors heading to Nevada's Great Basin National Park, which is just about an hour and a half away. Many guests choose to combine their trip to U-Dig with visits to Utah's numerous geological and paleontological attractions, along with exploring the outstanding Green River fossil quarries in Wyoming.
